Catch Media Adds Rovi Entertainment Data and Technology to Amplify Use of Play Anywhere® Technology
Rovi Corporation (NASDAQ: ROVI) and Catch Media announced today that the two companies are working together to power a robust music discovery experience for users of Catch Media’s Play Anywhere® technology, a capability that enables consumers to access and enjoy their personal music collections both on the web and on mobile devices. Catch Media and Rovi have signed an agreement whereby Catch Media will incorporate Rovi entertainment data and technology into Play Anywhere®.  The integration of Rovi solutions into the Catch Media platform is designed to enable consumers to find information and rich media content about their favorite music and artists in their home media playlists where and when they want.

Rovi Signs IPG Patent Licensing Agreement for Broadband and Mobile Platforms with Third-Largest Cable MSO Service Provider in the U.S.
Rovi Corporation (NASDAQ: ROVI) and Cox Communications today announced that they have entered into a multi-year agreement whereby Cox will license Rovi interactive program guide (IPG) intellectual property.  The agreement provides Cox with a license to the Rovi IPG patent portfolio for Cox’s broadband and mobile platforms, expanding the existing relationship between the two companies that has been primarily focused on their set-top box platform.

Rovi Corporation today announced that the company’s G-Guide Electronic Program Guide (EPG) and media networking solution, Connected Platform, have been incorporated in Buffalo’s new multi-functional digital TV tuner “DTV-X900” made available in early November 2010. Buffalo’s decision to incorporate these two solutions in its product has resulted in the ability for consumers to enjoy an even more fulfilling digital entertainment environment.  With the integration of Rovi’s technologies, Buffalo users are able to easily access their favorite programs on G-Guide, record selected programs onto an external HDD and play recorded programs in any location using home networking solutions—all through one device.

Rovi Corporation (NASDAQ: ROVI) announced today that it had third quarter 2010 revenues of $138.0 million, compared to $114.5 million for the third quarter of 2009. Third quarter 2010 GAAP net income was $36.4 million, compared to a GAAP net loss of $11.9 million for the third quarter of 2009.

Entertainment Identifier Registry Simplifies Digital Commerce for the Industry
A new international coalition, led by MovieLabs, CableLabs®, Comcast and Rovi Corporation, today announced the launch of the Entertainment Identifier Registry (EIDR), a non-profit global independent registry that provides a uniform approach to cataloging movies, television shows, and other commercial audio/video assets with unique identifiers (IDs). Backed by a broad group of industry players, including Deluxe, Universal Pictures, Neustar, Paramount Pictures, Sonic Solutions, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Walt Disney Pictures, Warner Bros. Entertainment, Motion Picture Association of America, Inc., Civolution, Vobile, INA (L’institut national de l’audiovisuel), and others, the registry is set up as an industry resource to help streamline digital commerce and simplify consumer transactions. The consortium is actively looking to expand with new partners and participants internationally.

Rovi Corporation (NASDAQ: ROVI) today announced that it is offering cable television service providers the ability to deploy interactive television services through the integration of Enhanced Television (ETV)/ Enhanced Binary Interchange Format (EBIF) applications and widgets on Rovi Passport Guide and i-Guide. In collaboration with FourthWall Media, Rovi is launching a standards-based ETV/EBIF Solution comprised of an EBIF User Agent and ETV Platform Server to facilitate the integration of a variety of third party applications with the guide, and a starter kit of FourthWall applications that includes Yellow Pages on TV, eBay on TV, News, Weather, Sports and Finance.

Rovi Corporation (NASDAQ: ROVI) today announced that it has received $124 million in cash from the U.S. Internal Revenue Service for carryback claims, utilizing part of the previously announced $2.4 billion tax loss that resulted from the sale of TV Guide Magazine. Additionally, the Company received $36 million in cash from the release of escrow funds related to the sale of TV Guide Network. These increased cash balances will be partially offset by repurchases of the Company's outstanding 2.625% convertible senior notes due 2011 and the Company’s common stock, with such repurchases expected to total up to approximately $75 million in the second quarter of 2010.

First quarter 2010 GAAP net income was $68.1 million, compared to a net loss of $41.5 million for the first quarter of 2009. First quarter 2010 earnings included an income tax benefit of $108.5 million. GAAP diluted net income per common share for the quarter was $0.64, compared to a loss per common share of $0.41 for the first quarter of 2009.

Measurement Method Assesses the Effectiveness of Interactive Guide Advertising
Rovi Corporation (NASDAQ: ROVI) today announced that it has formulated a new set-top-box (STB) measurement methodology to assess the effectiveness of advertising campaigns on interactive television guides. The methodology provides insights into live broadcasting, time-shifting and video-on-demand viewing habits from thousands of STBs.  It provides Rovi with enhanced insight into viewer behavior and the performance of advertising campaigns on the guide. In addition, Rovi has signed agreements with more than 23 cable operators in order to grow its sample size to tens of thousands more STBs over the next 18 months.

Cable System Roll Out Complete on Motorola Platform – Conversion to Passport Guide and ShowRunner Planned for Cisco Platform in 2010
 Rovi Corporation (NASDAQ: ROVI) today announced that Cox Communications has completed deployment of Rovi’s video on demand (VOD) application, ShowRunner, in the company’s Motorola systems.  As a result of the conversion, combined with additional marketing and promotion of On DEMAND from Cox at time of launch, the company has seen an increase in VOD usage of approximately 20 percent.  ShowRunner’s advanced navigation path and other features make it easier for subscribers to access and navigate VOD content.  Cox is planning additional roll-outs of ShowRunner throughout 2010 with a conversion to the Passport Guide for cable systems on the Cisco platform.

Rovi Corporation (NASDAQ: ROVI) announced today the closing of its offering of $460 million aggregate principal amount of 2.625% convertible senior notes due in 2040, at an issue price of 100% of the principal amount of the notes. The notes were issued in a private placement to qualified institutional buyers pursuant to Rule 144A under the Securities Act of 1933, as amended.  The closing included $60 million aggregate principal amount of notes issued following the full exercise, by the initial purchasers of the notes, of an option to purchase such notes solely to cover over-allotments.

The Company also granted the initial purchasers of the notes an option to purchase up to an additional $60 million aggregate principal amount of notes solely to cover over-allotments. The sale is expected to close on March 17, 2010, subject to customary closing conditions.

Rovi Corporation (NASDAQ: ROVI) announced today that the Internal Revenue Service (“IRS”) has completed its review under its Pre-Filing Agreement Program of the tax loss recognized from the Company’s December 2008 divestiture of TV Guide Magazine.  The Company and the IRS executed a closing agreement which confirmed that the Company recognized an ordinary tax loss of approximately $2.4 billion from the TV Guide Magazine sale.

Company Exits GuideWorks Joint Venture
Rovi Corporation (NASDAQ: ROVI) today announced that it has expanded its relationship with Comcast to include Rovi’s enhanced entertainment products as well as an expanded license under Rovi’s patents across mobile, online, and other Comcast distribution platforms.  In addition, Rovi has exited its GuideWorks joint venture with Comcast and Comcast has become sole owner of GuideWorks.  GuideWorks was formed in 2004 as a collaborative effort by the two companies to further develop an interactive program guide solution, now distributed by Rovi under its i-Guide brand.
