Rovi and I-O DATA DEVICE Sign IPG Patent License Agreement
TOKYO, Japan, 6/18/2010 - Rovi Corporation today announced I-O DATA DEVICE, INC. has signed a license agreement for Rovi interactive program guide (IPG) technology portfolio, which also includes the use of the G-Guide electronic program guide on IO-DATA DEVICE’s TV tuners and tuner boards for PCs.
More and more devices are being introduced to the market everyday, with a variety of features and functionalities that create a complex environment for the consumer. The home PC has expanded beyond a purely informational tool to a component of home entertainment. Guidance technology from Rovi can help consumers find programs on their digital devices. Rovi G-Guide is an example of this capability as it covers most terrestrial and satellite broadcasting programs and is routinely innovated for better usability, as in the Chumoku-Bangumi.
“Program guides have evolved from being available on newspapers and magazines to EPGs that can be viewed on TV, mobile phones, and PCs. And with the advent of terrestrial digital broadcasting, it has changed how users interact with their TV viewing,” said Akitaka Nishimura, senior vice president of Asia Pacific, Rovi Corporation. “We are glad that I-O DATA DEVICE, a leading developer of computer peripheral equipment, has selected our IPG solutions for use on its TV tuners for PCs. Rovi will endeavor to continue to provide solutions that go beyond the framework of computers and AV equipment so that users can intuitively discover, manage, and enjoy digital media content within the ever-changing landscape of digital entertainment.”
