Guide Patent Licensing
Rovi's interactive programme guides (IPGs) enable consumers to discover relevant, new content and navigate to the programming that interests them most. Rovi licenses IPG technology to third party guide developers, including cable and satellite providers, consumer electronics manufacturers, set-top box manufacturers, interactive television software providers and programme guide providers in the online, computer and mobile phone businesses.
Third party guide developers can license Rovi interactive programme guide (IPG) products and technologies. Rovi IPGs are incorporated into consumer electronics products, including plasma, DLP and LCD televisions as well as DVD recorder-based products. Patent licensing is also available to online and mobile providers.
Rovi has licence and distribution agreements for its interactive programme guides (IPGs) with the majority of U.S. direct broadcast satellite (DBS), multi system operators (MSO) and IPTV (IP Television) providers—as well as some international MSOs and DBS providers. Licensees have the option of a service agreement to deploy Rovi IPGs or a patent licence which allows them to deploy Rovi IPGs or another IPG.
